It's just two characters , but even those who know nothing about technology and digitalization have already heard, read or seen some news related to them. 5G is attracting attention precisely because of the concept behind this expression. Digital professionals, entrepreneurs and civil society are starting to prepare for this solution without knowing for sure when it will actually be operational in Brazil .
In total, Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) received 15 proposals and the auction just took place during the first week of November 2021. The expectation is that by mid-2022 the frequency will be in operation , at least, in the slovenia mobile database capitals and most populated municipalities in the country, and from there, it will be expanded to municipalities with more than 30 thousand inhabitants by 2029. If well implemented , the technology has the capacity to further deepen the digital transformation, guaranteeing a connection never seen before in our history.

I detail some of the most frequently asked questions on the topic below, with answers to try to help explain how it will really impact our lives.
1 – What does 5G technology refer to?
5G technology is nothing more than an important technological evolution of current connection and data traffic solutions that allow us to be connected to the internet or talk to each other virtually, both through mobile networks and fixed networks (home or business broadband connections).
Its main feature and advantage is to substantially increase the speed of data traffic from one point to another, which should be at least 20 times higher than the current speeds we use in 4G and will make it possible, for example, to download full HD movies in just a few minutes, for example.
Furthermore, as latency (response time) is also much lower than that currently observed in 4G, the proposal of 5G is a fast and efficient connection that will enable the connectivity of various objects to the internet and between themselves, such as watches, cars, buildings and even industries or entire cities.
With the pandemic, we have become even more aware of the importance of good connectivity. Thanks to 4G, it was possible to hold video conferences while working remotely, watch your favorite series on streaming and share large files. But 5G will open up a whole new world of possibilities, such as augmented reality and faster download and upload speeds – in addition to enabling the Internet of Things (IoT). Everything that can be connected will be connected.
2 – What changes will 5G bring in practice?
We are living in a period of digital acceleration caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus. Many solutions that were once confined to science fiction have gained ground in recent months. However, there are other projects that depend on the high speed of 5G to get off the ground. The expansion of telemedicine is one of them. Today, we can participate in a virtual consultation with a doctor, but only with this new connection technology will it be possible to perform remote surgeries or perform more detailed diagnoses and exams remotely, for example, on a massive scale.
Self-driving cars and connectivity between objects also depend on 5G in general. Only the rapid flow of information between systems is capable of creating the connections necessary for this purpose – allowing online shopping at the supermarket using data generated by the refrigerator itself, for example! Entertainment services , such as streaming, and digital financial transactions are also expected to grow even more.
Virtual reality and augmented reality, together with systems connected via 5G and IoT, will completely transform the world we know today and will make the distinction between “virtual and physical” increasingly difficult to perceive.
