Recently, we broke the news that Safe Harbor was coming to an end and what it meant for email marketers. We notified you that new developments were on the way. Well, they are here. This week, the European Commission and the United States reached an agreement on a new system for transatlantic data flows: the EU-US Privacy Shield.
The new agreement will include the following elements:

Strong obligations on companies that manage personal data of European citizens: US companies that collect personal information from taiwan consumer email list European subscribers will have to make commitments about how their personal data will be processed and individual rights will be guaranteed. The Department of Commerce will monitor companies that disclose their data, which will be enforced by the Federal Trade Commission under US law. In addition, any company managing human data resources from Europe must comply with decisions made by the European DPA.

Effective protection of European citizens’ rights with recourse possibilities: This includes the creation of the “Independent Functional Ombudsman” who will help citizens resolve their complaints if they discover that their personal data is being used. They will be able to easily raise an investigation or complaint and companies will have to respond within a deadline.
Under the new agreement, an annual meeting will be held by all US agencies that have access to EU citizens' information. This will ensure that the agreement is enforced in the following years. It will be held by the EC and US Departments of Commerce.
