The baguette becomes part of cultural heritage

Post by rabia829 »

In December, UNESCO announced that the baguette, part of France's cultural heritage, is now recognized on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

According to the BBC, the origin is unclear, but some suggest that the bread was ordered by Napoleon because it would be easier for soldiers to transport, while others suggest that it emerged later and became popular because it is an easy food for workers to transport and consume, without needing to use a knife.

The important thing is that this food fantuan phone number data remains the key to French identity; France produces approximately 16 million baguettes a day.

Parisian baker Priscilla Hayertz told AFP that baguettes are "a basic necessity," but "this affects all sociocultural categories, whether you are rich or poor... it doesn't matter, everyone eats baguettes.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said in an interview with CNN that bread is a way of life, a mark of French tradition and traditional, artisanal ways of making bread. “The baguette is a daily ritual, a fundamental element of the meal, synonymous with sharing and conviviality.”

In France there are different types of baguettes, the most typical being the so-called traditional baguettes, which only have four ingredients: flour, water, salt and yeast.

Despite the recognition of this culinary tradition, traditional family-run bakeries in France are experiencing a phase of decline with the rise of hypermarket chains.

The list already has 600 items, with some foods such as Neapolitan pizza, Chinese tea and Arabic coffee, among others.
