Marketers know they need to measure what matters, but what metrics matter most when the economic outlook is uncertain? Uncertainty highlights the need to move beyond traditional marketing metrics and toward measuring real business outcomes.

For the 2022-2023 school year, Arizona State University (ASU) had a goal of gambling data indonesia enrolling more students online than the previous year—a tall order considering that enrollment at U.S. higher education institutions has been in steep decline for years.

To drive this outcome, ASU partnered with Google data scientists to use advanced automation solutions in combination with first-party data to identify individuals most likely to enroll at the institution.

However, ASU needed to adopt new measurements to track the results of these solutions and progress toward its goal. The university turned to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and adopted Google Tag Manager (GTM) server-side tracking. This allowed it to measure the results of its first-party targeting, resulting in a 10% increase in observable conversions on its site and an 8% increase in page conversion rate. Adopting GTM tagging also resulted in a 25% improvement in load time and an 18% improvement in search engine results page position.

This increase in conversions had a noticeable impact. During the Fall 2022 semester, ASU Online increased enrollment by 6.9% compared to 2021, setting a record for new entrants.

New automation solutions leveraged the scale of the platforms, helping ASU reach the people most likely to take action at a lower cost. And it was able to measure and track this progress in real time using privacy-safe solutions within GA4.
